7 Myths Associated with Life Insurance You Should Debunk

Planning for contingencies like death and hospitalisation is an important part of financial planning.
Buying a life insurance cover provides money to dependents of the bread earner on his or her death. However, there are a number of myths associated with life insurance that should be debunked first to ensure that one buys adequate life cover to protect the family.

MYTH 1: LIFE INSURANCE IS A WASTE OF MONEY
Life insurance is bought to protect ourselves from the contingency of untimely death. It would take care of the living expenses of your family if you die young.
Life insurance is an investment that is more of a safety mechanism; it is to provide financial security to the dependents. Term policies that cover the risk of untimely death are cheap and most ideal for providing life coverage.

MYTH 2: LIFE INSURANCE IS FOR SAVING TAXES
This could probably be a selling point for agents. But tax-saving is one of the many benefits life insurance offers. The main benefit is the provision of finances in case of the death of the policy holder.
Taxes can be saved with other tax-saving instruments like mutual funds, tax-saving bonds and government bonds, post-office savings schemes and Public Provident Fund (PPF).
Paying a premium to cover the full financial needs of the family in case of the death of the bread earner is very important. The cover should be for about 7 to 10 times the annual income of the bread-earner.

MYTH 3: THE VERY YOUNG DON’T NEED LIFE INSURANCE
This is a wrong notion. The common notion that people die when they are old may be true to a large extent. But having the risk of death covered is definitely better than leaving dependents financially bereft in case of an untimely death. Besides, it is smart to take benefit of the lower premium rates offered to the young. Also, you may find it difficult to take life insurance when you are old due to higher premium rates or being refused because of ill-health.

MYTH 4: LIFE, MEDICAL COVERS ARE PROVIDED BY EMPLOYERS
These covers are available only until you are in a particular company or till retirement. Also, life insurance provided by employers may not adequately cover the living expenses of your family in case of your untimely death.
It is advisable to buy medical insurance when you are young, as fresh medical insurance taken just prior to retirement could be refused on medical grounds. Critical illness policies help meet additional living expenses of the family in case of a critical illness.

MYTH 5: ULIPS FOR A LIMITED PERIOD SEEM ATTRACTIVE
In most cases, this is more of a sales gimmick. Most insurance products are so designed that the major costs are incurred in the first few years and deducted from the premium.
There are charges that the company wishes to recover over the entire tenure of the policy. So very less is actually invested in units. It is, therefore, best to look at unit-linked insurance plans with an open mind and consider a commitment of periodic investment for the whole tenure of the insurance policy.
Paying for a longer tenure could result in a more profitable proposition.

MYTH 6: IT’S BEST TO BUY A POLICY IN THE NAME OF A MINORThis emotional sentiment selling point has helped many to sell insurance. Also, the premium paid on child policies may be much less than on a policy for an adult wanting the same coverage. A life insurance policy is taken to make good the loss of income to the family, so taking a policy with the child as a beneficiary or nominee may be a smarter thing to do.

MYTH 7: PLEASING RELATIVES/ASSOCIATES IS IMPORTANT
Avoid taking policies just for the sake of satisfying your friends and relatives who are insurance agents. Also, you need to avoid taking policies just to maintain relationship with business associates like bankers. Insurance policies need to be taken based on your need. These days, online term insurance plans are 50% cheaper when compared with term policies taken through agents or brokers.

Snake conservator dumps snakes in Tehsil office

In a bizzare incident, people were taken by surprise in Haraya Tehsil of Basti district of UP when dozens of snakes entered the Tehsil office. People didn't know what to do and there was chaos and confusion everywhere. The employees of the Tehsil could be seen running for safety. Amid the din everyone wondered as to where such huge numbers of snakes came from. Haqqul, a snake charmer, had requested the local administration to provide land to preserve them. However the administration didn't pay any heed to his request. So Haqqul adopted this novel method of protest and dumped the snakes in the Tehsil office.

Wipro chairman Mr. Azim prem ji's comment on reservation:

I think we should have job reservations in all the fields. I completely support the PM and all the politicians for promoting this.
Let's start the reservation with our cricket team.
We should have 10 percent reservation for Muslims.
30 percent for OBC, SC /ST like that.
Cricket rules should be modified accordingly.
The boundary circle should be reduced for an SC/ST player.
The four hit by an SC/ST/OBC player should be considered as a six
and
a six hit by a SC/ST/OBC player should be counted as 8 runs.
An SC/ST/OBC player scoring 60 runs should be declared as a century.
We should influence ICC and make rules so that the pace bowlers like Shoaib Akhtar should not bowl fast balls to our SC/ST/OBC player.
Bowlers should bowl maximum speed of 80 kilometer per hour to an SC/ST/OBC player.
Any delivery above this speed should be made illegal.

Also we should have reservation in Olympics.
In the 100 meters race, an SC/ST/OBC player should be given a gold medal if he runs 80 meters.

There can be reservation in Government jobs also.
Let's recruit SC/ST and OBC pilots for aircrafts which are carrying the ministers and politicians (that can really help the country.. )
Ensure that only SC/ST and OBC doctors do the operations for the ministers and other politicians. (Another way of saving the country..)
Let's be creative and think of ways and means to guide INDIA forward...
Let's show the world that INDIA is a GREAT country.
Let's be proud of being an INDIAN.. May the good breed of politicians long live..

Earth | Time Lapse View from Space, Fly Over | NASA, ISS

Time lapse sequences of photographs taken by the crew of expeditions
28 & 29 onboard the International Space Station from August to October,
2011, who to my knowledge shot these pictures at an altitude of around 350 km.
All credit goes to them. I intend to upload a FullHD-version presently.

HD, refurbished, smoothed, retimed, denoised, deflickered, cut, etc.

All in all I tried to keep the looks of the material as original as possible,
avoided adjusting the colors and the like, since in my opinion the original
footage itself already has an almost surreal and aestethical visual nature.

Always "THINK OUTSIDE OF THE BOX"

6 beautiful HR Questions !!!

Here are some of the typical HR questions asked to find out if the candidates have "out of box" thinking capability

Question 1:

"What will you do if I run away with your sister?"

The candidate who was selected answered " I will not get a better match for my sister than you, sir."

Question 2:

Interviewer (to a student girl candidate) - What if one morning you woke up & found that you were pregnant ?

I will be very excited and take a day off, to celebrate with my husband. (Normally an unmarried girl will be shocked to hear this, but she managed it well. Why should I think it in the wrong way, she said later when asked.)

Question 3:

Interviewer: He ordered a cup of coffee for the candidate. Coffee arrived and was kept before the candidate, then he asked "What is before you?"

Candidate: Instantly replied "Tea" and got selected.

(You know how and why did he say "TEA" when he knows very well that coffee was kept before him?.

Answer: The question was "What is before you U? (-alphabet). Reply was "TEA" T (- alphabet).

Question 4:

Where Lord Rama would have celebrated his "First Diwali"?

People will start thinking of Ayodya, Mithila [Janaki's place], Lanka etc...

But the logic is, Diwali was a celebrated as a mark of Lord Krishna Killing Narakasura. In Dusavataar, Krishnavathaar comes after Raamavathaar.

So, Lord Rama would not have celebrated the Diwali At all!

Question 5:

You are driving along in your car on a wild, stormy night, it's raining heavily, when suddenly you pass by a bus stop, and you see three people waiting for a bus:

An old lady who looks as if she is about to die.

An old friend who once saved your life.
The perfect partner you have been dreaming about.

Which one would you choose to offer a ride to, knowing very well that there could only be one passenger in your car?

This is a moral/ethical dilemma that was once actually used as part of a job application.

* You could pick up the old lady, because she is going to die, and thus you should save her first; * or you could take the old friend because he once saved your life, and this would be the perfect chance to ! pay him back. *

However, you may never be able to find your perfect mate again...

The candidate who was hired (out of 200 applicants) had no trouble coming up with his answer. Guess what was his answer?

He simply answered:

"I would give the car keys to my Old friend and let him take the lady to the hospital. I would stay behind and wait for the bus with the partner of my dreams."

Sometimes, we gain more if we are able to give up our stubborn thought limitations. Never forget to "Think Outside of the Box."

Question 6:

The interviewer asked the candidate "This is your last question of the interview. Please tell me the exact position of the center of this table where u have kept your files."

Candidate confidently put one of his finger at some point at the table and said that this was the central point at the table. Interviewer asked "how did you decide that this is the central point of this table?", then he answers quickly that "Sir you are not supposed to ask any more question, as it was the last question as you promised .....

And hence, he was selected as because of his quick-wittedness.

This is what Interviewer expects from the Interviewee. ....

Peng Shuilin -Owner of Half Man - Half Price Store

Peng Shuilin had half of his body amputated after being run over by a truck. But he never gave up! His recovery has amazed surgeons after almost two years undergoing a series of operations. The vice-president of the hospital where this 37-year old Chinese man has been treated said: “He is amazing and the only person in the world to survive having so much of his body amputated.” He’s doing well now and has opened his own bargain supermarket - called the Half Man-Half Price Store. That’s incredible.

Simple Human Kindness in World War I

The Australians Make Friends With the Turks in Gallipoli

As awful as war is, it's still being fought by human beings, and they don't just check their humanity at the door. Sometimes, right in the heat of battle, sympathy and simple human kindness breaks through. Spontaneous truces occur when groups of soldiers decide they just can't take it anymore.

In the heat of World War I, the British decided that they needed to invade Turkey. It was a ballsy decision, considering that doing so would result in a bloodbath the likes of which the world had rarely seen. So, rather than suffer the senseless death of tens of thousands of British soldiers, they decided on a different tactic: Send in Australians.
The Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZACs) were shipped out to Turkey to seize the Gallipoli peninsula, a task which basically relied on their ability to sprint across the beach and absorb two dozen bullets each before falling over. But the Australians -- who were more than used to living in hellish conditions -- held their own. Although they were unable to drive back the far superior numbers of the enemy, they killed or wounded up to 10,000 Turks while losing only a few hundred of their own.

But then a remarkable thing happened. With the blazing heat of the Turkish beach working on the corpses of thousands of fallen soldiers, both sides simultaneously came to the conclusion that this was a bunch of bullshit. At the very least, someone should give all these dead people a respectful burial.

On May 24, 1915, a daylong ceasefire was arranged between the troops. The Allied troops and Turkish troops came out of their trenches together to bury the dead. It was hard, sweaty work, but in between, the soldiers struck up quite a remarkable friendship. They started by exchanging greetings and cigarettes before they began to swap badges like players at the end of a soccer game. Thousands of Turkish civilians came out to watch the spectacle from the surrounding hills. For the first time in recent memory, it was kind of like, you know, there wasn't a World War going on.When it came to 4 o'clock, the Turks approached one of the Australian commanders, Captain Audrey Herbert, asking him for orders. He then retired both the troops and walked down the lines and made the two sides shake hands. When a dozen Turks popped out of their trench, Audrey taunted them, saying they would shoot him the next day, to which they replied, "God forbid! We would never shoot you.

"Twenty minutes later, all jokes aside, the indiscriminate killing began again, as though this eerie interlude had never happened.
